After losing the Panchkula municipal corporation polls, an Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) candidate from ward number 13 attacked an independent candidate's supporter on Wednesday morning.

1,113 votes were polled in the favour of INLD's Subhash Nishad, and he lost by a margin of 139 votes to Ravikant Swami of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who secured 1,252 votes.

Nishad along with his supporters on Wednesday attacked Rinku, a resident of Abheypur village and a supporter of Rajesh Kumar who fought as an independent candidate.

Rinku and his mother got injured in the attack.

Kumar had secured 555 votes, in the 2008 elections when he supported Nishad who had won the 2008 polls.

Kumar told the police that Nishad was blaming him for his defeat in Panchkula's MC polls. He added that on Tuesday night too Nishad's group hurled abuses and on Wednesday morning there was a clash between the two groups.

The police registered a case against Nishad under sections 148 (for rioting), 149 (for being a member of unlawful assembly) and 323 (for voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code .
