Former union minister and Halqa in-charge, SAS Nagar, Balwant Singh Ramoowalia on Wednesday said that village panchayats should execute development works without indulging in any groupism, and it is panchayat's duty to ensure efficient utilisation of government grants.
Ramoowalia said this while addressing the gathering after laying the foundation stone for various development works worth Rs 1 crore 90 lakh at Balongi village on Wednesday.
He said that Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had approved a financial grant of Rs 90 lakhs that will be helpful to execute development works.
He added the BJP-SAD government in the state was taking a keen interest for making Punjab as a leading state in terms of education, health and overall development.
Ramoowalia urged people to fight against drug menace and unit against anti- social elements.
"To make people aware about unnecessary expenses in weddings, a committee comprising 15 members will be formed,"he said.
On this occasion, district planning committee chairperson Amanjot Kaur Ramoowalia said that many other development works such as renovation of internal roads, outer periphery, sewerage laying and providing drinking water facility would be also carried out in Balongi village.
