To deal with violence during student council elections and traffic congestion on campus, Panjab University vice-chancellor, AK Grover met leaders of various students' political parties on Tuesday.
Sources said the V-C had asked the student leaders to come up with a draft of rules for the smooth conduct of the elections. “The V-C was concerned about the kind of violence the PU campus witnessed during the student council elections last year. He has asked all the political parties to come up with rules so that elections can be conducted peacefully and students can participate,” a student leader said.
In September 2013, during student council polls, the PU campus saw several incidents of violence. Academic activities of the varsity also got disrupted for days due to this.
Grover also asked the student leaders to share their ideas to curb the problem of traffic congestion on campus. “They have been asked to share their ideas at the earliest so that further action can be taken before the start of 2015-16 academic session,” a PU official said.
