Unidentified person took away the purse of a woman during a wedding ceremony at Kisan Bhawan, Sector 35, late on Sunday night. There were Rs 6000, gold bangles, silver rings and some envelopes in the purse.

The police are scrutinising the video footage of the wedding ceremony to identify the accused.

The incident took place when Vandana Chopra, a resident of SAS Nagar, was busy in attending the guests at the venue.

Sector 36 station house officer (SHO) Ram Dayal said that the details were being verified from the family to identify the accused. A case under Section 380 of the IPC has been registered, he said.

According to the SHO, the police have decided to deploy two cops outside marriage venues to curb the incidents of thefts. On Sunday, the police had detained two juveniles loitering at a wedding ceremony. Later they were sent to Snehalya, a child care house near Sector 39.

A similar incident had taken place recently in Sector 43 when a woman had stole gold jewellery at a hotel. That case is also under investigation.
