Valuables worth nearly Rs 80K stolen in Panchkula

A burglary was reported at Sector 21, Panchkula, on Wednesday. Valuables worth nearly Rs 80,000 were reportedly stolen.

The incident occurred when Ashok Kumar, a retired bank official, had gone to Bengaluru with his family on a vacation. Upon his return on Wednesday, he found the lock on his wooden front door broken and his house ransacked.

The complainant said that the lock on the gate was untouched, implying that the burglars had scaled the compound wall to enter the house. According to Kumar’s complaint, a laptop silver idols, jewellery, silver coins and keys to his bank lockers were found missing from his house.

“We have registered the case under section 457 (house trespass) and section 380 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). We are investigating the case,” said assistant sub-inspector Brij Pal, who is in charge of the Sector 21 police post.

Thieves caught on CCTV

In another incident, Ashutosh Chopra, a resident of Sector 6, Panchkula, reported that a youth stole three cylinders kept in the courtyard of his house.

In his complaint, he said that a young man arrived in a black Lancer, which he parked next to the house, opened the gate, and took away the cylinders. The entire incident was shown in a CCTV footage, which he is reported to have submitted for investigations.
