As part of series of functions for celebration of Van Mahotsav 2014, the department of forest and wildlife, the Chandigarh administration in collaboration with the municipal corporation and the education department celebrated 'Herbal Day' at the MC Rose Nursery, Sector 23. UT home secretary Anil Kumar was the chief guest and planted sapling of 'Shatavari'. Kumar also inaugurated Chandigarh MC's new project, the Herbal Garden.
Kumar also distributed saplings of herbal plants to the school students and teachers and emphasised the need of herbal plants in curing of day-to-day health problems.
"Be sensitive towards nature and plant trees so as to make Chandigarh a cleaner city," he exhorted students.
The overall objective of celebrating the 'Herbal Day' is to sensitise masses, especially school children and generate awareness on the medicinal values of various plants available in nature and to make Chandigarh more clean and green city. The day is being celebrated at all Eco Clubs in Chandigarh schools.
