Ahead of the Panjab University elections, student leaders do a lot of brainstorming, discussions, making of strategies and plans. And the canteen seems to be their good old haven to plan it all.
A quick look around the campus and you'll find the party members at these easily accessible canteens.
Sharing his party's favourite canteen, National Students Union of India (NSUI) chairman Bhupinder Singh Batth says, "Since the start of this session, we have always been sitting at the geology canteen. SOPU used to have a strong presence at the science department. As most of the SOPU leaders have moved to NSUI, we don't want to leave our hold on our strong departments."
Batth adds, "We call geology canteen our head office. If anyone wants to meet us, they don't even have to call and confirm about our whereabouts. Everyone knows NSUI members will be present at this canteen. After finishing our campaigning at classes and other places, we return back to this place."
He further adds, "We hardly have lunch or dinner here, though. Our dinners are mostly scheduled at different hostels, as it solves a dual purpose of knowing the status of the particular area, and also the chances of coming across fresher's, on whom we can focus on."
Party member Manoj Lubana chips in. He says, "This canteen is on the main road and with our group of members which is usually around 25 to 40, usually found sitting here, it gives an impression of the party strength we possess."
While, NSUI is happy being easily spotted by everyone, PUSU is opting a different strategy and choosing a silent place as there hub, instead.
PUSU Chairman Jaideep Dholewal says, "The University Business School canteen is at the back side of the university, and a very silent place to have some personal discussions. Our party has been getting together here, since the admissions started this year. There are various things that we can't discuss in the departments in front of other party members. So this place helps us in carrying all the discussions and making plans."
Student Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU) president Arshnoor Dhillon shares, "You'll always catch us at the law canteen. Whenever someone gets free from campaigning from their respective places, instead of roaming around, it's better to get together at one place. This not only helps in showing the support we have, we can also sit down and think of ideas and plans. Everyone gets updated about the new happenings in the party."
