In the fake death certificate case, the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot, has sought legal opinion on the candidature of the daughter of Tarn Taran senior superintendent of police (SSP) Rajjit Singh.
Hindustan Times (August 10) had exposed that with the aim of getting an MBBS seat for his daughter in the terrorist-affected quota, the SSP had got issued a fake certificate stating that he had been killed in a terrorist encounter. The certificate was produced during counselling for admission at the BFUHS on Wednesday.
University vice-chancellor Dr SS Gill confirmed the development. "We have sent the file for a legal opinion. We will take action accordingly," he said.
The university prospectus clearly states, "Any misrepresentation, false information, fake documentation and impersonation for securing admission shall be punishable under the relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code along with cancellation of admission."
Earlier, Hoshiarpur deputy commissioner Varun Roojam, who had issued the fake certificate on June 25, had withdrawn it and also suspended an official working in the relief and rehabilitation branch of the DC's office. He had also ordered an investigation into files of cases of the past two years pertaining to certificates of terrorist-affected victims.
