The district consumer disputes redressal forum, Chandigarh, has directed a vehicle dealer of Industrial Area, Phase 1, to pay a compensation of Rs 10,000 to a city resident for failing to repair a defective auto-rickshaw.Disposing of a complaint filed by Rajinder of Sector 32-C, the forum also directed Mehar International to refund rs 30,000 paid for the auto along with Rs 7,500 as litigation cost.
.
Rajinder had purchased the auto from Mehar International on February 24, 2014, by making a down payment of Rs 30,000. The term of the loan was four years with a monthly instalment of rs 4,406. The auto was delivered to him the same day.

The complainant alleged the auto did not start the next day and there was leakage in the engine also. The complainant visited the workshop of the dealer a number of times, but the problem was not rectified.

He alleged that the vehicle dealer sold him a defective auto which was earlier sold to one Mewa Lal, thereby causing huge monetary loss as well as mental agony to him.

The vehicle dealer opted not to appear to contest the complaint and it was proceeded ex parte.
