Vendor lands in jail for wearing Punjab Police uniform

To get a photograph clicked in police uniform cost a vegetable vendor dear as he was arrested on the charges of wearing uniform used by public servant with fraudulent intent.


The accused has been identified as Harmeet Singh (30), a resident of Burail village.

Giving details, station house officer (SHO) of the Sector-3 police station inspector Harjit Kaur said the accused, who sells vegetable for living, had come to Sukhna Lake, along with his friend, to get his photograph clicked in the Punjab Police uniform on Wednesday.

When a patrolling party asked the accused to show his identity card, he told them that he was wearing the uniform just to get a photograph clicked at the lake. He also claimed that he was not aware that wearing uniform was an offence. The accused was arrested and was later released on bail.

A case of wearing garb or carrying token used by public servant with fraudulent intent under section 171 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) had been registered.
