Victim's father hassled; Ramdev visits, promises help

"Kya laga rakha hai? Baithne ki jagah nahin hai aur yahan logon ne mehfil laga rakhi hai (What's happening here? There is hardly any place to sit but people are pouring in)," said a visibly irritated father of the girl who has alleged rape by five UT policemen. The father was reacting to the media flockinging to the house as yoga guru Ramdev reached their residence on Saturday afternoon.

Accusing the Chandigarh police of harassing his daughter, the father said, "If this incident would have occurred in my hometown in Uttar Pradesh, I would have tackled the cops easily."

Ramdev met the family and said he would bear the expenses of the girl's studies and marriage. "The family of the victim has acted in a brave manner and the entire country is with them," he said.

SSP Sukchain Singh Gill also visited the victim's house. Earlier, Congress leaders HS Lucky and Devinder Babla and BSP councillor Jannat Jahan met the SSP.

BJP councillor Saurabh Joshi said PCR, the abbreviation for police control room, should now be read as "please call for rape". He also asked why the UT administration officials "have no time to meet the victim".
