Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) patron-in-chief and Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal described the resounding win of his party in the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) polls as a "victory of the Khalsa Panth".

He said that "the way the Delhi government and Congress leaders campaigned for the Sarnas", it left Sikhs in no doubt that "the fight really was between the Khalsa Panth and the Congress". "The verdict was, therefore, never in doubt. I hope the Congress leaders at the national level also draw the right lesson from it," Badal added.

"The verdict carries the message that the SAD (Badal) is the sole representative of the religious and political aspirations of the Sikh masses all over the world".

SAD president and Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal thanked the Sikh sangat (community) for "an opportunity to restore the old glory" of historic Sikh shrines of the national capital.

"This election is a reminder to the Sarnas (ousted DSGMC chief Paramjit Singh and his brother Harvinder) that those stabbing the Sikh community in the back by hobnobbing with the Congress will be severely punished by the community," he said. "Any person who plays games to undermine the authority and supremacy of the Akal Takht has to bite the dust."

Challenging the Congress to be prepared for same fate in the Moga bypoll, the SAD chief said that his "singular mission" is to "decimate the Congress from the political scene of the country".
