The Chandigarh Academy for Rural Tennis (CHART) trainees Vikrant Dahiya and Digvijay Pratap Singh will clash in the boys’ under-16 final of the ongoing AITA Championship Series tennis tournament at the Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA) complex in Sector 10 on Tuesday.

In the semifinals played on Monday, top seed Vikrant registered a straight set win over Sagar Bains. Vikrant was quickly off the blocks and raced to a 4-1 lead in the first set. But Sagar won the next two games to reduce the margin to 4-3.

Vikrant, 5-4 up, had a chance to seal the set but unforced error saw the set going into tiebreaker. Here too Vikrant took an early lead of 3-1 but once again Sagar rallied to make it 4-4. But Vikrant won the next three points to close out the set.

In the second set, Vikrant lost his service game and was trailing 0-2 but came back strongly to make it 2-2. After this, he lost only one game and closed out set and match 6-3.

In the second semifinals, Digvijay defeated Aditya Vashisht 6-3, 6-3, in straight sets.

The girls’ final will be played between Jahnavi Shivran and Khushbeen Kaur.

CLTA trainee and top seed Jahnavi was stretched a little but in the end prevailed over Ashpreet Kaur Bajwa in straight sets 7-6 (4), 6-3.

Khushbeen, also a CLTA trainee, had to fight hard for her berth in the final.
