The director of Vivek 90.4 FM, a community radio station of Vivek High School, Sector 38, on Tuesday was booked for allegedly molesting a radio jockey.
The accused has been identified as Ashish Tandon. A case was registered under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 354A (sexual harassment and punishment for sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code at the Sector 39 police station on the complaint of the 18-year-old radio jockey.
The police said the Himachal Pradesh-based girl had alleged that Tandon tried to outrage her modesty several times. When she objected, Tandon told her that if she wanted to get proper training and promotion at the radio station, she was supposed to “bear such things”.
The girl had also complained to the school administration against Tandon. The girl approached the police after her family advised her to do so. Meanwhile, sources said she was training with the radio station and was not a regular employee, and the director had recommended the school administration to pay her some allowance during the training period.
HS Mamik, chairman of Vivek High School, when contacted, said that the complainant had approached him six days after the alleged incident, on which he had asked her to submit a complaint in writing, which she failed to do. “She didn’t give a written complaint, still I decided to initiate an inquiry and asked her to join the inquiry which she failed to do,” Mamik added.
He said that the complainant had approached them for the post of a trainee radio jockey and failed to clear the interview.
Cops’ role under scanner.
Notwithstanding the serious charges against the director, he was released within half-an-hour after police detained him from the radio station.
