It has been learnt that Dr Prem Sharma had complained to the vigilance department that the rent collector had demanded Rs 4.40 lakh as bribe for transferring 21 kanals and nine marla land in the name of his wife Dr Jyoti Kiran Sharma.

In his complaint, he had alleged that earlier also two instalments of Rs 50,000 each were paid to the accused, adding that the second was to be paid on Thursday.

Soon after receiving the information, the vigilance department constituted a team headed by inspector Rajinder Sharma to lay the trap and arrested the rent clerk in the presence of duty magistrate Nasib Singh.

The accused has been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act and will be produced in the court on December 19.
