Waste management: Rs 17 cr for 171 Punjab villages

The union government has selected 171 villages in Punjab under the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyaan (NBA) for which they would get Rs 17 crore in all for managing the solid and liquid waste in 2013-14.

The union government has selected 171 villages in Punjab under the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyaan (NBA) for which they would get Rs 17 crore in all for managing the solid and liquid waste in 2013-14.

The move would benefit around 33,000 households that would be equipped with proper sanitation facilities under the scheme, chief minister Parkash Singh Badal here stated.


These benefited villages include 24 in Amritsar district, 20 in Bathinda, nine in Fatehgarh Sahib, 11 in Ferozepur, eight in Gurdaspur, three in Hoshiarpur, eight in Jalandhar, 11 in Kapurthala, eight in Ludhiana, seven in Mansa, four in Nawanshahr, 19 in Patiala and Rupnagar each and 10 in SAS Nagar and Sangrur each.

Badal, who also holds the portfolio of water supply and sanitation, stated that it is through his concerted efforts that the state has been able to bring these villages under the NBA.
