The residents of Phase 9, 10 and 11 and Sectors 67, 68 and 69 are at receiving end from the past two days as there is no water supply on first and second floors.

The town is reportedly short of 10 MGD (million gallons daily) water for drinking purposes and this figure shoots up to 12 MGD during peak summer (May to July).

Public health Executive Engineer RP Gupta admitted that there was a problem of low water pressure in Phase 9, 10 and 11.

He said there were complaints of muddy water in the town, so they making arrangements to clear water at the water works in Sector 57. The resident would have to face the problem for one more day, he added.

At present, the town is having 28 tubewells installed, which are not fulfilling the requirements of the residents.

With the additional availability of 2.5 MGD water from Kajauli Phase 4 water project, the district headquarters is currently getting 10 MGD canal water, besides 3.5 MGD being released from 27 functional tubewells of the water supply and sanitation department to quench the thirst of residents.

Local Congress MLA Balbir Singh Sidhu said, “Despite the authorities being aware that the town is short of 10 MGD from the past several years, why arrangements have not been made. Not only the town is reeling under water problem, but it also lacks basic amenities.”

SAS Nagar gets water supply from 5am to 9 am, 12 pm to 1 pm and 6pm to 9pm.
