A parade-cum-investiture ceremony was organised on Tuesday at the Army Parade Ground, New Delhi, to mark the 67th Army Day. Lt Gen KJ Singh, army commander, Western Command, reviewed the parade, which included eight mechanised contingents and nine marching contingents.

The event is organised every year by the Western Command prior to the Army Day, which will be celebrated on January 15 at the same venue. Also, as part of the army’s effort to promote Nari Shakti, a woman officers’ contingent also took part in the parade for the first time in the history of the army.

The army commander also conferred Yudh Seva Medals, Bar to Sena Medals, Sena Medals, Bar to Vishisht Seva Medals and Vishisht Seva Medals to the award winners and the next of kin of martyrs for their gallant and distinguished services. Lt Gen KJ Singh exhorted all ranks to live by the highest tradition of the army.
