The tricity was greeted by a cloudy sky and inter mittent showers early in the morning on Tuesday and the pleasant weather remained till around 11 am. Another spell of rain began around 9pm, continuing late into the night in scattered areas of the tricity.

The meteorological department said the city was likely to receive rainfall on Wednesday as well. “The sky may be partly cloudy with the possibility of light rain”, it said in its daily bulletin. It attributed the unusual weather conditions to winter winds coming from the Mediterranean becoming unusually active this year and triggering thunder squalls and showers in the plains as well as on the hills.

On Tuesday the maximum temperature was recorded nine notches below nor mal at 30.1 degrees Celsius with the minimum at 17.7° C, 5°below normal. The Met said temperatures on Wednesday may rise by 3° C.
