Pitch drunk and puking, three schoolgirls accompanied by two teenaged boys were reported to the police on Wednesday morning as they became an object of sadistic pleasure in Leisure Valley, Sector 10.
The police managed to take the three girls, two of whom were unconscious when cops arrived, to the hospital, and also caught hold of the boys, who were said to have not taken part in the drinking binge that occurred at a bar in Sector 10 around 10.30am.
Though the police were yet to initiate any legal action against the Class 12 students - four from government schools and one from a private school - and let them go home for now, the incident managed to put the spotlight on the sad trend of youngsters getting hooked to alcohol and worse.
The girls, who had a little too much of vodka at Oscar diner-cum-bar in Sector 10, had left their houses in Sector 23 on the pretext of going for a movie. The plan, in fact, was to get drunk with the boys and then go and watch the movie. But, investigating officer Sukhchain said, the plan fell through as the alcohol got to the girls. As they started puking and two of them passed out, an onlooker called the cops.
One of the boys fled the spot as the police arrived, but was nabbed later in the day. No charges were pressed, as the girls were not in a condition to give any statement. Two of the girls were discharged by the night.
Deputy superintendent of police (crime) Satbir Singh said, "We have questioned the boys to ascertain if the girls were forced into drinking. The statements of the girls are yet to be recorded."
But the venue of the drinking binge is under fire. Sector-3 police station house officer Poonam Dilawari said, "The youngsters drank at Oscar bar. We will find out how the manager sold hard drinks to minors."
Meanwhile, high drama was witnessed at Government Multi-specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, as the parents of the teenagers lost their cool and started scolding them there and then. The parents screamed and shouted at the media and objected to photographs.
