A proposed study tour to Singapore by a 15-member team of PEC University of Technology has raised eyebrows, with a section of the faculty questioning the inclusion of four participants on the list.

Questions are being raised on the selection of Puneet Chawla, officer in-charge, international relations; Dr Anju Singla, a management faculty; Dr Sucheta, chairman library sciences department and Dr Rakesh Kumar, a faculty member of aerospace engineering.

All deans are part of the trip, but Deepak Baghai, who is dean (alumni and international relations) from the department, has reportedly been ignored in favour of Puneet Chawla. Chawla is the wife of an-other faculty member Per-minder Jit Singh, who is the dean (student affairs) and part of the team.

When contacted, Baghai refused comment.

Dr Anju Singla is an assistant professor with applied management department, Dr Rakesh Kumar another assistant professor with the aerospace engineering department. Both are junior and their presence ohas puzzled many.

Other names

The inclusion of Dr Neelam Rup Prakash, associate dean (planning) is being linked to presence of Dr Parveen Karla on the list, who is dean (academic affairs). “It is not clear as to what criteria were followed,” said a faculty member.

About the trip

The seven-day trip, the first of its kind at PEC University, begins October 2. A World Bank funded project, Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP), has made the tour possible. PEC had received `13 crore under the TEQUIP.

Officials claim that the trip has been approved by the UT administration.
