The district consumer disputes redresssal forum has directed Wills Lifestyle, Sector 17, to pay Rs 5,000 as compensation for failing to replace a substandard product.

The forum has directed Wills Life Style to refund Rs 7,999 to Dr RS Sachdeva, a Sector 15 resident, along with Rs 5,000, as cost of litigation. The complainant said he had purchased a coat worth Rs 7,999 from Wills Lifestyle during a sale in February last year. He said no bill was issued to him by the store as the storekeeper told him that they did not provide bill on items on sale. He said the fabric of the coat started fading in March. Despite making several visits to the store, he was entertained by the staff on May 30 when he lodged the complaint.

The coat was taken back with an assurance that either they would exchange the coat or refund the money, but to no avail.

Wills Lifestyle was proceeded ex parte as none appeared on their behalf despite summons.

The forum presided over by PL Ahuja, held: “The attitude of Wills Lifestyle in keeping the coat in its custody instead of replacing the same proves deficiency in service.”
