The procurement of winter jerseys for government school students is set to be delayed in nearly 30-35 schools as they have not received any responses to the second tender.
The first tender, floated on October 3, failed to garner a favourable response from vendors and the UT education department was forced to float the second tender on October 14.
Government schools in the city are now in a fix as both tenders have failed to generate interest among vendors.Principal of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 19, Sukhneer Sekhon, said the school had received no bids for the second tender.
She maintained: "We are left with no option but to float a third tender in the hope of getting some responses this time." A school head, on condition of anonymity, said it would be not be possible to procure woollen jerseys before January.
Similarly, schools like Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 37-D; Government Model High School, Sector 34; have also drawn a blank over the timely procurement of the woollen jerseys.
In Chandigarh, more than one lakh students are eligible to receive winter school uniforms.
Government schools faced a tough time in procuring uniforms last year as well.
Meanwhile, a few schools -Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 40; Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 46; Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 47; and Government Model Senior Secondary School, Karsan - have received two bids from vendors.
School authorities said they would place supply orders after opening the bids on Wednesday.
An official of the education department said the department would assess the response of the vendors and take appropriate steps for the timely procurement of woollen jerseys.
