Woman commits suicide, husband booked

The police on Friday booked a man for allegedly forcing his wife to commit suicide. The police said the 32-year-old woman had committed suicide by jumping into the Bhakra canal. The deceased has been identified as Kuldeep Kaur, a resident of Dhamooli village (Patiala).

The investigating officer, Naib Singh said Kuldeep married Sohan Singh, a resident of Jakharali village, in 2006. He said her mother, Surinder Kaur told the police that Sohan would beat and abuse her daughter and it had led to her daughter taking her own life.

The deceased's mother further told the police that Kuldeep had left home on September 7 on the pretext of buying medicine from the market but did not return.

The police said Kuldeep's body was recovered from the Hissar Bhakra canal and the Haryana police
initiated proceedings under Section 174 of the Code for Criminal Procedure after recovering the body from the canal. The family was informed that a body had been recovered from the Bhakra canal after which the parents identified the body. The deceased's mother, Surinder Kaur lodged a complaint with the police, who have booked the husband under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code in Mulepur police station.
