Mystery shrouds the death of a 23-year-old woman who fell from the sixth-floor apartment of a Punjab superintendent of police (SP) here on Friday morning.
Batala SP (headquarters) Mohan Lal was also present in his flat when Loveleen, a Gurdaspur native, fell to her death.
The police officer also took her to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital in Sector 16, Chandigarh, where doctors declared her brought dead.
The body has been shifted to Dera Bassi civil hospital, where autopsy will take place after the arrival of the parents of the deceased woman on Saturday.
The SP's family and gunman were also present in the flat when the incident took place at Rishi Apartments in Zirakpur.
Zirakpur station house officer Trilochan Singh reached the spot and inspected the blood stains, but returned after finding no one at the flat.
While the police remained tight-lipped on the issue, HT investigations revealed that the girl may have been injured before she fell from the SP's house as there were blood stains in the balcony of the flat.
The domestic help employed by the SP for the upkeep of the house, too, is absconding. It is learnt that the father of the deceased woman is a head constable in Punjab Police.
While SP Mohan Lal went incommunicado, his Dera Bassi counterpart, Anil Sharma, said police were investigating the case. "We will decide on the course of action once the parents of the victim reach here," he said.
