Woman ends life; husband, in-laws booked

A 26-year-old woman committed suicide after consuming poison at her house in Samgoli village on Friday night.

The deceased was identified as Reena Devi. Four family members, including her husband and in-laws, were booked for abetment of suicide. All accused are still at large.

According to the police, she was rushed to the Dera Bassi civil hospital from where she was shifted to GMCH 32, Chandigarh, where she died on Saturday.

Her father Mahinderpal alleged that Reena had been harassed by her in-laws for dowry.

On his complaint, husband Gurpal Singh, his father Dayal Singh, mother Seeta Devi and brother Rishipal were booked under section 304 B of the IPC.

Dera Bassi SHO Gurjit Singh said Reena married Gurpal Singh around six years ago. The couple has a two-year-old son.
