Woman lawyer killed in road mishap

A 45- year- old advocate died after a two-wheeler rammed into her near Fun Republic, Manimajra, on Friday night.
The incident took place around 10pm. The victim, Umrila, an advocate at the Punjab and Haryana high court, was riding her two-wheeler back home to Panchkula when the accused, identified as Sonu, who was also riding a scooter, jumped a red light and crashed into her scooter from the left, knocking her down. The woman injured her thigh bone from the impact of the crash and succumbed to injuries.

Meanwhile, the accused, who had also sustained injuries and received first aid at the civil hospital, managed to escape after he was discharged and is currently absconding, said Manimajra SHO Charanjit Singh.

The officer added that the accused was inebriated at the time of the accident. The police have booked Sonu for rash and negligent driving and have contacted his family in an effort to trace him.
