Haryana Child Welfare Council vice-president Asha Hooda said that the country could progress only when there were equal opportunity for education to women.
Speaking as chief guest at a special lecture organised in Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya campus at Khanpur Kalan (Sonepat) in connection with 72st 'Balidan Diwas' of Bhagat Phool Singh and 100th birth anniversary of Subhashini Devi.
Asha Hooda said that an educated girl is the cornerstone of any civilized society. "Society can't be healthy, if the girls are ignored," she said.
She said that with the establishment of Mahila Vishwavidyalaya, the girls of rural areas have got opportunity for higher education. She commended the efforts being made by the university for fulfilling the dreams of Bhagat Phool Singh and Subhashini Devi.
In her address, Asha gave a clarion call to stop female foeticide and establish a society where there was no gender discrimination.
She said that women must realise their potential and power. She said that girls should be given proper education so that they empower themselves.
Earlier, the chief guest paid floral tributes at the statues of Bhagat Phool Singh and Subhashini Devi.
