If admitted to the Post Graduate Institute Medical Education and Research or availing of its services, would you care for the purse the woman doctor attending to you sports?
Well, the institute management certainly seems to care. In a decision that will cost the institute Rs 50 lakh every three years, female doctors can spend up to Rs 6,500 on buying a purse and the institute will foot the bill. Male doctors have also been allowed to buy briefcases worth Rs 6,500 and they will also be reimbursed.
There are around 800 staff members, including doctors and others that have been eligible for the benefit, to be given to each individual once every three years.
Interestingly, till recently the institute sweared by austerity measures.
The office order issued by PGIMER director Dr YK Chawla on Friday. “The following staff of the institute are entitled for reimbursement of charges on account of purchase of briefcase/official bag/ladies purses which will be actual subject to the approved limit.”
Each faculty member working on the post of professor or above will be eligible to buy briefcases or purses worth Rs 6,500. The deputy director, financial adviser and superintending hospital engineer and all other faculty members including additional, associate and assistant professors will be eligible to get Rs 5,000 on purchase of the briefcases or purses.
Registrar, lecturers, senior administrative officers, chief nursing officers, nursing superintendent, principal private secretaries, purchase officers, administrative officers, private secretaries, hospital engineers and assistant engineers will be eligible to get a ladies purse of briefcase worth Rs 4,000.
When questioned, PGIMER official spokesperson said the decision had been taken under the guidelines of the department of personnel and training.
