World Kidney Day: PGI to hold free camp at OPD

To disseminate the message of World Kidney Day, the department of nephrology, PGIMER, Chandigarh will launch World Kidney Day awareness campaign on Thursday.

The celebrations will start with two-day public education programme and free medical check-up. Under this programme, free tests like BMI, blood sugar, urine examination and kidney function will be conducted at New OPD from 9:30am to 4pm.

Public interactive sessions with expert talks on chronic kidney disease, diabetes and hypertension, renal transplantation and deceased donor will be organised.

Besides, public would be exhorted towards organ donation. Those interested in participating in free medical check-up are required to pre-register themselves by sending an SMS with name to 85911-29992.

World Kidney Day (WKD), a joint initiative of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations (IFKF), is observed annually on the second Thursday of March in around 200 countries.

The awareness campaign is aimed at promoting preventive behaviour, encouraging early screening of people with diabetes and hypertension, and stimulating positive thinking about organ donation and transplantation
