chandigarh Updated: Jan 21, 2014 19:32 IST

The workers of Youth Akali Dal (YAD) staged a demonstration and burnt the effigy of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Pratap Singh Bajwa at local municipal council chowk on Tuesday over Bajwa's alleged links with drug mafia and militants.

The workers led by Youth Akali Dal (urban), Rupnagar, president Parvinder Pal Singh Binta raised slogans. Binta condemned Bajwa for levelling 'baseless' allegations regarding involvement of Punjab revenue minister and YAD president Bikram Singh Majithia in drug trade.

A large number of leaders and workers of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and YAD participated in the protest.
"Bajwa's campaign against Majithia has been launched to demoralise Punjab Police that had launched a nationwide campaign against international drug mafia,"he said.

Youth leaders Gurdeep Singh Deepu, Baljinder Singh, Manmohan Singh, Rajesh Jain, Inderpreet Singh, Dipanjot Singh, Sanjeev Kumar, Manjit Singh, Satnam Singh, Mohit Sharma, Charanpreet Singh and Paramjit Singh also participated in the protest.
