Taking a dig at the khap panchayats in Haryana, Janata Dal (United) president Sharad Yadav said khaps were for the rich and mighty, not for the poor and downtrodden.
Paying tribute to former deputy prime minister Devi Lal at a "samman rally" organised by the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) at HUDA ground here, Yadav said: "Khaps take up issues that favour the dominating class and neglect those concerning the poor. If they want to serve people, they must send a strong message to the anti-social elements so that nobody dares to look down upon the weak."
Denigrating chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, he said: "Though Hooda takes credit for improving the state's rank to number 1, land acquisition policy here proves that he (Hooda) is number 1 in favouring builders and corporate houses."
Reaming the central government out for its "poor governance", he said country's total annual budget was Rs 12 lakh crore and the UPA government was embroiled in scams worth Rs 5.5 lakh crore.
