Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee vice-president Rana KP Singh on Monday alleged that Youth Akali Dal (YAD) workers and leaders were being allowed to indulge in illegal mining of sand in the state.

Talking to mediapersons here, Rana alleged that truck tippers bearing YAD stickers and loaded with illegally mined sand and other raw material were being allowed to move unchecked on roads across the state.

He said the administration had become a mute spectator to wrongdoings by leaders and workers of the ruling party, while it was taking action against others.

"The police have been taking action against some people for alleged involvement in illegal mining, while they have not acted against any Akali leader or worker in this regard so far. The law should be the same for everyone," Rana said.

Earlier, addressing a gathering of the Rupnagar District Congress Committee (other backward classes department) at the local Congress Bhawan, KP Singh criticised the Akali-BJP government for burdening people of the state with heavy taxes. He called upon Congress workers to start preparing for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Punjab Congress (OBC department) chairman Dr Gurinder Pal Singh Billa, Rupnagar district president Karnail Singh Jailly and Rupnagar District Congress Committee president Sukhwinder Singh Whisky also spoke on the occasion.
