Completing the trial of a rape case in one year's time, a Chandigarh court on Saturday awarded seven-year rigorous imprisonment to a 21-year-old resident of Colony Number 25 for kidnapping and raping a minor girl, saying that it was a "heinous act". The court also slapped a fine of Rs 11,000 on him.

Additional district and sessions judge VP Sirohi held Rahul guilty of abducting and procreation of a minor (Sections 363 and 366) and rape (Section 376) of the IPC. The court relied on the statement of the victim and medical records while holding the youth guilty of the offence.

According to prosecution, Rahul kidnapped a 15-year-old girl on the intervening night of January 15-16, 2011, from her house. The victim alleged that Rahul had enticed her on the pretext of marriage. He took her to Delhi at a friend's place and raped her for nearly five days.

The accused brought the victim back to Chandigarh on January 23 and called her mother. He even threatened to kill the victim, if she did not marry her. Both the convict and the victim were neighbours and known to each other.

Victim's mother had lodged a complaint against Rahul on January 17, 2011, and a case was registered against him under Sections 363, 366 and 376 of IPC. Police arrested the accused on January 24, 2011, from his house.
