Youth killed, two injured in group clash

One person was killed and two others were seriously injured when a clash broke out between two rival groups due to an old enmity in the city, police said in Chandigarh on Saturday.

The incident occurred late on Friday night near a liquor shop in Sector 24 here, nearly two kms from here. A group of around eight youths, armed with swords, iron rods and sickles attacked 21-year-old hotel management student Tajinder Mattu, his cousin Salim and some of their friends, police said.

Mattu was killed, while two other youths were injured in the incident, police said, adding old rivalry is said to be the reason behind the incident.

According to the area residents, the armed accused chased the rival group for 20 minutes.

Two youths Manu and Navdeep were arrested under various sections of the IPC, while three of their companions are still absconding, they said.
