With record breaking voting in city during the 16th Lok Shabha elections, local businesses could be seen fulfilling their commitment to provide discounts to those with inked finger. Many businessmen said mostly those visiting them for discounts were youngsters.
Several food joints in the city were offering these discounts, which ranged from 20-35%. The Chandigarh administration hotels were also offering discounts.
Speaking to HT, first-time voter Aditi Sharma said, "It was a great move by the UT administration. I and all my friends, who voted, availed discounts at different places in the city."
Another first timer Shiban Kumar said even though his exams were on, he was out making the most of his inked finger.
The business establishments were all happy serving the customers and providing them discounts. Most were praises for the UT administration and the way they pulled off the voting this time.
Hotel association president Man Mohan Singh said, "I am really impressed with voting turnout and my all congratulations to the UT administration which made it possible. Different eating joints remained buzzing with people wanting to avail discounts. We want to see such change more often."
