A 22-year-old motorcycle-borne youth died on the spot when he rammed into a stationary multi-axle vehicle from behind near JP Hospital here on Ambala-Chandigarh highway around 11.30 pm on Friday.
The trailer-truck was carrying iron rods which went across the chest of the victim and it took over one hour to take out his body that had got entangled in the rods. Hospital staff helped the police in extricating the victim's body.
As per reports, the deceased has been identified as Joga Singh of Badheri village in Chandigarh. He was employed as a technician in the X-ray department with Alchemist Hospital in Panchkula and was returning to his village form his work.
Police have sent the body for a post-mortem examination after registering a case against the trailer-truck driver who fled the spot.
The trailer-truck was parked along the roadside as it developed some fault.
Traffic too remained disrupted on the highway after the incident.
