YPS, Patiala bags trophy in English declamation contest

The All India Interschool English Declamation Competition, held at Lawrence School, Sanawar on Saturday evening, saw a fierce battle of wits between the participants. The contest was judged by Mridula Sharma of MCM DAV College for Girls, Chandigarh, Indira Bhasin, a freelance soft skills trainer and image consultant in Shimla, and Raveen Bhullar.

Ram Kiran Nanduri, station commander of the Air Force Station, Kasauli, who was the chief guest, awarded the trophy and prizes to the winners. Aayushi Saini of Yadavindra Public School, Patiala, Aarnav Bhanout Sharma of St George’s College, Mussoorie and Praneet Rathor of YPS, Patiala won the first, second, and third individual positions, respectively. The overall trophy was won by Yadavindra Public School, Patiala.

The first, second, third and fourth consolation prizes were bagged by Vaibhav Ramlakhani of Mayo Boys’ College, Ajmer, Ishan Loomba of Kabir Public School, Chandigarh, Yudhvir Kabuli of Lawrence School and Urvashi Chauhan of the Convent of Jesus & Mary, Shimla, respectively.

Praveen Vasisht, headmaster of Lawrence School, Headmaster bestowed a token of appreciation to Nanduri and extended his vote of thanks. Among those present on the occasion were Shonu Mukherjee, the school’s deputy headmaster, and PK Sharma, its bursar. The competition was held under the aegis of the school’s English faculty.

Eighteen teams participated in the contest including those from Daly College, Indore, MGD Girls’ School, Jaipur, Rashtriya Military School, Chail, St George’s College, Mussoorie, Mayo College Girls’ School, Ajmer, La Martiniere College, Lucknow, Mayo Boys’ College, Ajmer, Vasant Valley School, New Delhi, Vidya Devi Jindal School, Hisar, Welham Girls’ School, Dehradun, Convent of Jesus & Mary (Chelsea), Shimla, Kabir Public School, Chandigarh, Dayanand Public School, Shimla, Vivek High School, Chandigarh, Auckland House, Shimla, Vivek High School, Mohali and Yadavindra Public School, Patiala. A team from Lawrence School, Sanawar also took part in the contest.
