The Patiala-SAS Nagar unit of Swami Vivekananda 150th anniversary celebrations committee organised a Yuva Sammelan at Dusshera ground in SAS Nagar on Sunday.
Vice-chancellor of Punjabi University Patiala Jaspal Singh, Shaheed Bhagat Singh's nephew Abhay Singh Sandhu and convener of International affairs Sadanand Sapray addressed the gathering.
Sadanand Sapray called upon the youngsters to follow the footsteps of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh and Swami Vivekananda. Stating example of Shaheed Bhagat Singh he said the great son of India wanted to sacrifice his life for the country since his childhood.
"Once when Sardar Bhagat Singh was working with his father in the fields, he sowed a gun in earth. When his father asked the reason behind it, Bhagat Singh replied that the gun will yield a gun tree, which he would use to get India free," he told.
Shaheed Bhagat Singh's nephew Abhay Singh Sandhu said the need-of-the-hour was to walk on the path Bhagat Singh had shown.
"The muscle and brawn are not the only means to fulfill the dreams of Bhagat Singh. It requires dedication and sacrifices too," he added.
The vice-chancellor of Punjabi University Patiala Jaspal Singh said Swami Vivekananda was a determined personality who carved a niche for himself in this world.
Prominent among others included Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh zonal head Prem Goyal, joint general secretary RSS Punjab Amrit Sagar, Punjab BJP general secretary Ajay Jamwal, Punjab government assistant media advisor Vineet Joshi, Chandigarh BJP president Sanjay Tandon, BJP leader Satpal Jain, SAS Nagar youth BJP president Sukhwinder Singh Goldy, Charan Rai, former DGP PC Dogra and several others.
Students of schools and colleges of SAS Nagar, Chandigarh and nearby areas paid tributes to Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Swami Vivekananda.
The guests for the occasion were felicitated with mementoes.
