Harbhajan Singh was at his quirky best as the Mumbai Indians got ready to take on the Highveld Lions in the inaugural contest of the CLT20 on Friday.
Excerpts from an interview:
On the opposition
We aren't worried about the Lions and are backing ourselves to do well against all opposition. But that doesn't mean we're taking anyone lightly.
On not bowling in the nets on Thursday
I took a break because I have been bowling for the last three days. Normally, I don't bowl too much before the game. I thought of taking it easy.
On Ambati Rayudu, R Sathish and Saurabh Tiwary's inexperience in South African conditions
They are quite mature and have played enough cricket to adapt. In any case, it's a mental block that wickets in South Africa will be different and tough. What even if it's that way? After all, the batsmen are getting the ball to hit. So they just need to do what they have been doing, and I'm sure they are capable of doing it.
On playing a practice match
It was quite a slow wicket the other day. It wasn't the normal Wanderers wicket. They are preparing a different wicket and hopefully it will be have more bounce. I don't think too much about the wicket. It's the same for both teams and the one playing better wins.
On excitement about the tournament
I don't know if there's enough excitement or not. I am here as a player and my job is to play; creating hype is not in my hands.
On Zaheer Khan's return
It's always nice to have Zaheer fit. With his experience, we have a huge advantage. We don't need to look around when he's bowling well.
