Presenting an entirely new and shocking piece of trivia, slain Shehla Masood's cousin, Rahil Hussain, in his statement to special CBI court, said, " When I reached the car, Shehla was still breathing. I wanted to take her to hospital, but someone told me that it is the matter of police and I must not intervene in it."
Hussain was the first person to reach the murder site. "All the doors were close and I couldn't see scratches or any other suspicious mark in or on her car," he said.
Replying in negative to defence council's question, Hussain said he had not heard the gunshot or Shehla's scream nor had he seen any red, green or black colour motorcycle near scene of crime when he reached there."
The chargesheet submitted by the CBI in the case said that a black Pulsar motorcycle was used in the murder, which was later seized by the investigating agency. During cross-examination, Hussain also told the court that Shehla went to Switzerland along with Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Vija. Notably, Vijay's name had cropped up during the CBI probe into the murder case, but the agency gave him a clean chit.
Earlier, Shehla's father Sultan Masood had told the court that his daughter was friends with many people, including BJP MLA Dhruvnarayan Singh and Tarun Vijay. According to the police report, Shehla was found on the seat next to the driver's seat in her car. Shrivastava said since Hussain shifted Shehla from the driver's seat to the adjacent seat, it meant that the original scene of crime was changed before the police arrived.
After the hearing, in response to a question by HT, Shrivastava said Hussain's cross-examination would turn out to be crucial in the case. Ruab Zaidi, Shehla's aunt, who was also supposed to appear in the court to record her statement didn't turn up.
The next hearing was scheduled for October 30. Hussain appeared as a prosecution witness on Friday and was cross-examined by defence counsel Sunil Shrivastava.
