A special legal literacy seminar-cum-workshop for panchayat officers, including block development and panchayat officers, panchayat secretaries, sarpanches, panchayat members, panchayat samitis members and nambardars was held at the Panchayat Bhawan on Tuesday.
District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) chairman and district and sessions judge Harnam Singh Thakur presided over the function.
Organisers claimed that the main purpose of the programme was to spread legal education and make people aware about the various schemes being run by the DLSA through panchayat officers.
Speaking on the occasion, Thakur said the functionaries in rural areas should fully participate in the programmes run by the DLSA, adding that the panchayat officers should work towards making the legal literacy mission a success.
He said during this age of information technology, no one should remain devoid of legal literacy and one should know his or her basic rights and duties and the laws related to them.
Various legal topics, including Right to Information Act, Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizen Act; Legal Services Authorities Act; and Victim Compensation Scheme were discussed during the seminar.
Chief judicial magistrate-cum-DLSA secretary Ravneet Garg also addressed the gathering.
