This is what happens when you don't know your neighbour and their vacation plans well enough. A man, who thought his neighbour was out of station, entered the house to steal, only to be caught red-handed.
The incident happened in sector 7 here on Wednesday night at the house of Mewa Singh Patar, president of resident welfare association of sector 8. Prakash, 50, had been living on rent just two houses away from that of Patar. Prakash somehow thought that Patar family was out of station for the last two days and he planned a theft in the house. He roped in his friend Yuvraaj, 19, a resident of Industrial Area phase-1, Panchkula.
Prakash waited outside on the roof, while Yuvraaj entered the first floor of Patar's house. Yuvraj managed to get his hands at Rs 5,200 in cash, toys, radio and a piggy bank from one of the rooms and he entered another room, where Patar's son was sleeping and he switched on the lights and managed to identify Yuvraaj.
Yuvraaj and Prakash managed to flee. A police team under ASI Gurmail Singh, in-charge of sector 7 police post, reached the spot.
"We got the information that a person had shifted in the neighbourhood recently. In the day we arrested both of them from old Panchkula," said ASI Gurmail Singh.
"We have arrested them under sections 380 (for theft) and section 457 (for trespassing) of the IPC. They will be produced before a court on Friday," added Gurmail Singh.
