A man abducted a 23-year-old woman after serving her a cold drink laced with sedatives and took her to Katra in Jammu and Kashmir, where he held her captive for six days and repeatedly raped her, the police said on Tuesday.

The victim somehow managed to escape the confinement in April, but remained mum over the matter fearing social stigma. She finally revealed the matter to the Basti Jodhewal police station on Monday.

Taking swift action, the police on Tuesday arrested the accused identified as Ram Phull, 25, of Prem Vihar of Tibba Road.

In her complaint, the woman alleged that she had gone to a shrine on April 3. While coming back, she boarded a three-wheeler, which was also boarded by Phull, who was known to her. She alleged that Phull had offered her a cold drink after drinking which she lost her consciousness. When she woke up, she found herself in a room in Katra, Jammu and Kashmir.

The victim alleged that Phull confined her in the room for six days and repeatedly raped her and later on drugged her so that she would not try to escape.

On April 9, she managed to escape, reached Ludhiana and told her parents about the incident.
inspector Randhir Singh, station house officer (SHO) at Basti Jodhewal police station, said the police arrested the accused immediately after registering a case of rape.
