Queen Elizabeth II made Prince William the Duke of Cambridge as a wedding day-gift to her grandson.

As well as a duke – the highest rank in British peerage – William also became the Earl of Strathearn and Baron Carrickfergus, which means wife Catherine Middleton will become the Duchess of Cambridge, Countess of Strathearn and Baroness Carrickfergus.

Kate is also technically Princess William of Wales – she cannot officially be addressed as Princess Catherine as she was not born a princess in her own right. But in the eyes of ordinary Britons, she has already become Princess Catherine or Princess Kate.
