A 27-year-old man was robbed of Rs 1.2 lakh cash by robbers on motorcycle in Nandgram, Ghaziabad. The incident took place around 12.30pm when the victim had gone to his house for lunch and was cornered barely 25 metres from his house when he was returning for duty.
According to police, David Kumar works as a cash collection agent with a cellular company distributor in Navyug Market and had gone to the field for cash collection on Monday morning.
“Around 12 noon, he went home for lunch in Nandgram. Half an hour later, when he was returning for duty, he was cornered by two armed men on a Pulsar bike, barely 25 metres from his house. They inflicted injuries on the victim with a sharp-edged weapon and snatched his cash bag,” said Manish Mishra, circle officer (city).
“We have launched a search for the bikers. We also tried to get the CCTV footage from a nearby school but the cameras there were not functional. We will rope in local intelligence and also use electronic surveillance to trace the accused. An FIR for robbery has been lodged,” he said.
“My brother suffered a deep cut on his forearm, seemingly inflicted by a knife. The locals also told us that the robbers fired two shots in the air to scare people and fled on the bike. My brother is under treatment,” said Rohit Kumar, victim’s brother.
This is the second back-to-back incident in Ghaziabad in which robbers have escaped with cash from residents. On Sunday morning, a 48-year-old man suffered severe injuries to his head after he and his brother were cornered by three armed robbers near NH-24.
The robbers escaped with nearly Rs 53,000 and also beat up Shahabuddin, who is a cattle trader. The two men were headed for Naifal from Dasna when the incident took place, police said.
