At least one cop was injured when the police baton-charged Congress workers, who were staging a protest demanding resignation of Punjab agriculture minister Tota Singh, here in Bathinda on Wednesday.

Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu and his supporters were lathicharged after they forcefully tried to enter the district commissioner’s office. The MP and his supporters, earlier ransacked the office of the chief agriculture officer, smashed windows panes and uprooted the main gate of the office.

Punjab agriculture minister has found himself in the midst of a storm after his name figured in a scam involving supply of spurious pesticides to cotton growers which has led to massive damage to the crop and losses to the farmers.

The opposition parties in the state have been demanding his resignation.
