United Akali Dal national general secretary and former Khalistan Commando Force chief Bhai Wassan Singh Zaffarwal was whisked away by the police from his residence at Zaffarwal village near Dhariwal town of Gurdaspur district on Thursday at around 8.30 am.
The arrest was a part of the police crackdown on the leaders of the Panthic organisations that had held a ‘Sarbat Khalsa’ at Chabba village near Amritsar on Tuesday.
On Wednesday the police had detained Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann and United Akali Dal head Mohkam Singh.
The Sarbat Khalsa passed various resolutions, including the removal of Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, and appointment of Jagtar Singh Hawara, convict in the former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh assassination case, in his place.
When contacted, Gurdaspur SSP Gurpreet Singh Toor refused to comment.
