Govt to focus on creative learning outcomes, newer schools this year

New Delhi: The Delhi government will run a leadership programme this year by focusing on developing qualitative learning outcomes for students, building Pratibha Vikas Vidyalaya in every zone, and sending teachers to Finland for training this year.
“In the first year, our focus was on improving infrastructure in schools. Then our focus shifted to improving the quality of teachers training, where we sent principals and teachers to Harvard and Indian Institute of Management (IIM’s). Now in the third year we will move from teaching to learning and work towards creative learning outcomes,” said education minister, Manish Sisodia at the ‘Excellence in Education Awards’ ceremony.
Outlining his plans to reform education, the minister said that he is also in talks with the Finland government to send teachers for training there. The education system of Finland is known to be one of the best in the world.
“Similarly for students also we will start a leadership programme. It will first begin as a pilot programme in few schools, then it will be expanded further,” he said.
He announced that in the coming year the number of Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalayas will be increased to 29, one each in every zone. At present, there are 17 such schools in the city. These are special category schools which provide education from classes 6 to 12 and admission are done through entrance test.
“We are also planning to build one ‘school of excellence’ in every zone, which would have an ambience and environment like the private schools. In the existing schools we have already been successful in building 8,000 new classrooms and we will add 8,000 more,” said Sisodia.
Thanking teachers for the continued support, Sisodia awarded 213 students and the city’s best schools. The 213 students were those who had scored well in the Class 10 and 12 board examinations. Out of the 213, there were around 24 students in the differently abled category who were awarded.
Madhu Sudan Mundka, one of those awarded and an ex-student of Shaheed Hemu Kalani Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya Lajpat Nagar talked about his journey to Ramjas College.
“I had scored 87.4% in my Class 12 and now I am studying BA Programme at DU. Though I am happy now but for people like me opportunities are limited. I will study hard and try to complete my post graduation,” said Mundka, who is visually impaired.
One of the students of a government-aided school, Anant Vohra was awarded posthumously. His parents were handed over the certificate, medal and the award money.
