Two of the six accused arrested on Friday in the Rs 9.16 crore robbery at a private company in Thane are suspected to be an employee and a former staff of Checkmate Private Service Limited, the firm that was robbed, police said.
Cash worth Rs 3.12 crore and three cars that were used in the robbery were also recovered from them.
“We have arrested six people and two are suspected to be an employee and a former employee of the firm. Our officers in Nashik are trying to trace the other accused,” a police officer at Thane crime branch said.
There are reports of other accused taking shelter in other states also. “Our teams are on a lookout and more arrests are likely soon,” said Praveen Dixit, Maharashtra DGP.
A gang of eight armed and masked men looted Rs 9.16 crore from the office of Checkmate Private Service Limited early Tuesday morning.
The group, armed with firearms and knives, stormed Checkmate’s office at Hiradip society because they couldn’t find anything in the van parked outside.
The accused have been brought to Thane and investigations have revealed that they had attempted robbery earlier, too, in the same office but had failed.
Among those arrested, two are from Nashik and four are from Thane.
